Georges Lequime, Fund Manager
Georges joined Amati in March 2021 as a Fund Manager for the WS Amati Strategic Metals Fund.
Since 2008, Georges was formerly a partner at the Earth Resource Investment Group and fund adviser of the award-winning Earth Gold Fund UI, a pure precious metals fund offering exposure to precious metals stocks and the underlying metals.
Prior to this he headed up equity research at RBC Capital Markets in London for five years, having moved there from New York where he managed the North American region for HSBC Global mining. Georges is a mining engineer by qualification, and after gaining practical experience in the gold and coal mining industries with Anglo American, he went on to manage the largest gold fund in South Africa, the Old Mutual Gold Fund for four years.
Georges holds a BSc in Mining Engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa and studied economics at UNISA (University of South Africa), he also holds the Mine Manager’s certificate in both open pit and underground mining.


Simon Edelsten, Chief Investment Officer & Fund Manager
Simon, Alex Illingworth and Rosanna Burcheri launched the Artemis Global Select Fund in 2011 and managed the Mid Wynd Investment Trust from 2014. He retired from Artemis in 2023. Before Artemis, Simon was one of the Partners at Taube Hodson Stonex Partners, managing St. James’s Place funds, the Electric & General Investment Trust and the quoted equity part of RIT Capital. In the 1980s and 1990s Simon was a stockbroker at Phillips & Drew, BZW and Dresdner Kleinwort Benson.

Alex Illingworth, Fund Manager
Alex has run global equity funds since 1997. He started his career at Rothschild Asset Management, running institutional global equity mandates. More recently, he spent twelve years building a global equity business at Artemis Investment Management. He has run mutual funds, institutional money and investment trust mandates. He founded Goshawk Asset Management with the backing of Harwood Capital. He also sits on the Investment Committee of the Royal Academy of Engineering.


Richard Penny, Senior Fund Director
Richard is a Senior Fund Director at Oberon Investments based in London. He has been managing the TM Oberon UK Special Situations Fund, the TM Oberon UK Core Fund since 2018 and the TM Oberon UK Smaller Companies Fund since 2022.
Richard previously worked at Legal & General Investment Management for 15 years where he managed the award-winning L&G UK Alpha Trust and L&G UK Special Situations Trust as well as several segregated mandates. Prior to LGIM he worked at M&G Investment Management, and prior to that Scottish Amicable Investment Management. Richard has a master’s degree in Engineering and Economics from Oxford University.
